a little about me

My design work started in middle school when I joined the yearbook club. We designed with graph paper using rulers, picas and a clip art book. The photos we took for the year book were with a film camera and were added to a layout done before the film was even developed. In high school, I transitioned to drawing. Lots and lots of drawing. At this time, I still had not known that graphic art was a possibility. It wasn’t until college that I took my first actual design class using a computer. At the time Corel draw was still the program of choice for layout. I then learned Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I took web design, painting, animation and many other creative classes. I then did my internship in Santa Monica with Vanguard records. I graduated from California State University Channel Islands with a bachelor’s degree in studio art.

Once out of college I began to search for my first job. I worked at a cell phone accessory company doing marketing, packaging design power point presentations. I then found a freelance position designing souvenirs. I wasn’t making much but the work was fun and hours were flexible. I continued to grow and learn as a designer with other positions. Over the years, I have come to see that there is no end to learning in graphic design. After 12 years, I can still open Photoshop and learn something I didn’t know the day before. I still enjoy the work I do very much and hope to continue working in the field for years to come, learning more every day.
